VALIENT THORR - "EXIT STRATEGY" VIDEO

Working on this was a massive and fulfilling pain in the ass. But I keep forgetting that I did this, crude animation for the rock band Valient Thorr and thier video "Exit Strategy". This is a few years old but it remains a feather in my cap and I need to keep re-posting it just so people can see it. So here it is:

HOW I SURVIVED GRUNGE.

This has already been printed in one of my books but as time goes on I remain insanely proud of this four page satire. Cheers!

ERECTUS MONOTONE PLAYS SECOND REUNION SHOW AT TIR NA NOG.

Erectus Monotone, "Vertigogo" from Mann's World on Vimeo.

YET ANOTHER KAREN A MANN VIDEO LITERALLY STOLEN FROM HER SITE TO PUT ON MINE. SHARE THE WEALTH, RIGHT?

It was a lovely evening to drive downtown with my brights on (long story) to see Rocket Cottage and The Loners play with Erectus Monotone in what will probably be their last reunion gig. It was a real good one too, much better then the Mergefest show. For starters, it was free. So that meant that everyone in Raleigh was able to go. So there was a nice crowd at Tir Na Nog and then Rocket Cottage played. Sporting a brand new single, the band played a good set that also featured a sax player which was a good call and cemented the band and their quasi-SST tendencies. The Loners played another solid set of their newer material with a few of their golden chestnuts thrown in.
Erectus were really really good. Unlike the show at the Cat’s Cradle where it seemed like it could fly apart any second, this one seemed more grounded and the band seemed more in control. I didn’t weep this time, but the band was in top form and the audience was very VERY receptive. I would like to point out drummer Brian Quast for a amazing overall job. Brian has always been one of my favorite drummers to come out of town and if anything he just gets better and better. It was like, wow. Andy Freeburn has spent so little time in public with a guitar in his hands that you could easily forget what a good player he is. He was point on with everything he was playing and added these little fuck ups and flourishes that recalled one of his heroes, Pen Rollings. He is also a fucking HAM, spelled h-a-m. Ham. Jennifer played and sang solid as always and Kevin also did a admirable job. Being surrounded by so many people from my relative past, it was like stepping into a time machine going back to the early nineties, except that I think Erectus Monotone played better at this show then they probably ever have in the past.
It was fun. I had a good time.

FINALLY, DOUBLE NEGATIVE AND "DAYDREAM NATION".

Things have been pretty exciting in the Double Negative camp these days..we have been writing a bunch of new material out of nowhere. All of us (except for Kevin, who has his hands even fuller then usual what with Erectus Monotone playing those reunion shows) have been writing. Even me. Usually we wait for Scott to show Justin something who in turn shows me what Scott showed him and then we have a song. Not anymore. I have had a few songs, Justin has had a few songs, Scott has had a few songs and we all re-write everyone’s songs. We have enough new material, not counting the odd song on a single here and there for the proposed DAYDREAM NATION second album. Twelve new songs. We will be tightening up the songs and then finally FINALLY record them. I can honestly say (although I know everybody says this) that this will be at least ten times better then the first album. There is some different stuff going on, a real progression. Really. And even though it has been a long absurd time this will be worth the wait.
DAYDREAM NATION will be released on album courtesy of Sorry State Records. If Sorry State deosn't want to do a cd version of the release, we will probably have Bifocal Media release the cd version. I guess we shall see.
Also, Ryan Adams is starting a record label. Details will be announced as soon as Ryan gets it together to make a website but there will be a single with two songs released on his label. One of the songs is a slowed down version of one of our other songs and the best part is, it sounds like a completely new song. The other will be a surprise.
Here are most of the song titles you can expect to see staring back at you from the cover of the second Double Negative album, DAYDREAM NATION:

Voice Recognition
Beg To A Vile Nude
Endless Disappointment
Impatient Out
Emergency Rooms
Near Birth Experience
Hospitality
Discovery Machine
Knife On A String
Side Three
Super Recourse
