There is also some comics to look at and coooool music I drummed on, including a real good live Polvo tune that sounds great while stoned. Daddy, Patty Duke Syndrome, Double Negative and Siberian are also represented.

LIKE GOLD DOWN A SEWER.

I am finally going to finish this monster of a project that I have had under my belt for a long time, and it will be my next MANCHILD book. LIKE GOLD DOWN A SEWER is the title of what will be a oral history of music made under the initial name of "punk rock" here in Raleigh North Carolina from the years 1982 until the end of the decade. a eight year period is what will be covered. I have a lot of stuff but need so much more to make this complete. Plus I need more input and was wondering if anyone out there knows how to get in touch with the following people. It is a long list of people, a few of whom I have never met. Here it is:

jd holder
eric eycke
lee johnson
beth wright
debbie shamblee
jared bogart
grady ormond
mike carter
lila taylor
maria ma
jeff clayton
joe young
matt smith
chris phillips
simon bob sinister
danny hooley
chris eubanks
jon mcclain
woody weatherman's parents
sean from white zombie
graham mckinney
ricky hicks
bill mooney

there are plenty more that i can't think of right now, but the idea would be that i would send a variety of questions to be answered, and that is it for right now. I have a collection of old flyers and artifacts from this time period, and already have a lot of material and interviews from all kinds of people but I need a lot more. So if anyone out there comes across this note and knows how I can easily get in touch with these folks, please drop me a line either here or even better, at my regular e-mail at: reluctantking@hotmail.com

LIKE GOLD DOWN A SEWER, despite some of my satirical work in my other books (i.e. making fun of people, stuff like that) is a project that I am planning on taking seriously, and in fact I want the people that were there to tell the story and as for me, I will be staying out of it as much as possible.

There will also hopefully be another cd included, but it is hard to say what it will be at this point in time.

anyways, thanks.

MANCHILD 4.

Well, it is officially out now. And doing quite well I might add, which is really great to hear. I would like to thank everyone who has already purchased my book, and if you are interested, you can buy it through Bifocal Media or through me. I don't have a link up yet either here or at the other website but if you want one of these, contact me at: reluctantking@hotmail.com and I will give you the info.

Also, I must say that I am really proud of the Melvins cd included, "Pick Your Battles". It catches the band at two peaks and I am really happy with how it came out. It is really great. If I can say so.

Anyways, thanks again, everyone!

WOOTINI.

Just a little post to remind people out there that I will be having a art opening up at Wootini in Carrboro North Carolina this Friday evening, starting at 7 pm and going until..uh..whenever. I will be having a lot of stuff up to see as well as all of my MANCHILD books, those D. Boon t-shirts and those Jer Warren silk screened posters to boot. Come on out and say hello. And thanks to both Casey and Mike for their help.

After that, there will be a gathering at the nearby Reservoir where at least me and Charles will be on hand to watch a few bands play, notably The KICKASS (in some alga mated form) and another interesting band whose name I can't remember right now to save my life.

And on Saturday night, I will be trying my hand doing caricatures at one of those Carolina Roller Girls events. Wish me luck, kids!

STACY SUTHERLAND.

from the archives of Emerald Wood: Stacy Sutherland playing in the 13th Floor Elevators 1967.

..taking a short break from self promotion, I have been on a 13th Floor Elevators listening binge right now. Yes, they were truly an amazing band and EASTER EVERYWHERE is such an amazing album, a incredible statement for sure. But I would like to give a little praise to the band's often forgotten lead guitarist and songwriter, Stacy Sutherland.

the band's third record BULL OF THE WOODS, doesn't seem to get the same love as the other two but in its own way it is also a great album, more of a Stacy Sutherland album due to the circumstances at the time. The creepy otherworldness of songs like "Scarlet And Gold" or "Rose And The Thorn" are just as great as the Roky Erickson/Tommy Hall material.

The man could really play. listen to how he bobs and weaves his guitar lines around the rest of the instruments, truly expressive and awesome.

here is "Rose and The Thorn" off of BULL OF THE WOODS, written and sung by Stacy. Try not to get acid flashbacks watching the psychedelic patterns unfold before your eyes.

FIVE QUESTIONS WITH ME.

Karen A. Mann (ON THE RIGHT)asked me (IN THE MIDDLE) these five questions, so I answered them, and here is a link to what went down (AND THAT IS CHARLES ON THE LEFT):
